![]() ![]() How to Save Money on Your Cell Phone Bill. How to Free Up Space on Your iPhone or iPad.How to Block Robotexts and Spam Messages. This will be particularly useful when we’re on holiday and I’m unable to sync it to the desktop. Handily though, I can also use my phone to sync the data instead. I connect my watch to the computer when I’m working and it updates with the activities I’ve done since I last plugged it in. TomTom MySports is a great way to keep all your activity data in one place online. I did wonder afterwards if it thought I was dancing but it was useful to separate walking from running. I therefore used it for walking and it happily recorded my distance, duration, energy, speed, elevation and heart rate. I’m not sure what freestyle means, so I took it to be just any activity that you wanted to record. The activities recorded by the watch are run, cycle, swim, treadmill, gym, indoor cycling and ‘freestyle’. This is a distinct setting from cycling outdoors, so it doesn’t require GPS to record your activity. For now though, I’m loving the function on the TomTom Spark that allows me to record indoor cycling. I’m hoping to get back to cycling outdoors in due course. CyclingĪt the moment, my bike is on our turbo trainer inside so that my husband can use it as well. It is excellent being able to use the watch in the pool as well as running. So far I’ve knocked a minute off my time and I’m hoping to improve more in the coming weeks. I’ve been timing myself swimming a mile and it gives me my distance and time by the end. I know GPS doesn’t work inside, so I have no idea how it’s doing this – magic perhaps?Įither way, it’s really useful. I really don’t know how it does this, but the watch knows both how many lengths I’ve done and how far each length is, thereby knowing my total distance. In the meantime, I’ve tested the watch in the pool. I’ll be swimming without a wetsuit so it’s going to be pretty chilly. Much as I am delighted to see the sunshine that has now moved in, I’m giving it a few more weeks to warm up before I get in the lake. What happened? Well, it snowed, that’s what happened. When I agreed to review the TomTom Spark Cardio sports watch, I was determined to include an open water swim as part of my review. The button is well protected by the strap, so when I’m running with the dog lead around my wrist, sudden movements from Bubbles don’t pause my run. I also like the fact that there is just one large button that can be pressed in four directions to access the menu. The digits are large enough to glance at whilst running without worrying about losing pace or falling over. Whilst running, you can change the screen to show information about time taken, pace, calories and heart rate. I really like the inclusion of heart rate without having to wear a separate heart rate monitor. All this data allows it to accurately tell you how many calories you’re burning during a run. This information is combined with the age, weight and height details submitted onto the TomTom MySports app and the watch also picks up your gradient. Once the watch has found the signal, it buzzes and tells you that it’s ready.Īs soon as you get going, the watch starts recording your heartbeat from the heartbeat monitor that is on the watch itself. This is partly because you can update it with the location of the satellites to make it quicker for the watch to track where they are when it needs them. It picks up the GPS signal easily with the press of a button. Runningįor me, running is where theTomTom Spark Cardio really comes into its own. It has given me the kick I needed to try to get a bit more sleep, there’s no way I can be functioning properly if I’m averaging under four hours a night. ![]() The watch generally says I’ve been sleeping for around three to four hours a night. This does sound like it might be quite accurate, which worries me a little bit. I would therefore have estimated that I’d had around 5 hours broken sleep, but the watch says I slept for 3 hours and 49 minutes. Once during the night, I got up to Lia and once to sort the dog out. I think I was asleep by around 1 am and I don’t recall the children waking up much before 6.30 am. I’m not sure whether the watch is underestimating the amount of time I’ve been sleeping or if I’d been overestimating it. I’ve found this really useful, giving me some interesting data. This is based on movement, so you need to wear the watch to bed so it can pick up on the amount of time you’ve been still enough that it thinks you’ve been asleep. The other thing the TomTom Spark Cardio does automatically is to record the amount of time you’ve slept for. ![]() ![]() ![]() Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Why are the international powers recreating Japan history? At the end of season 1 I’m not sure but I can imagine it has something to do with the costs and rewards of this technomagic. In fact, this union of tech and magic is the solution to the confusing “why are they doing that?” that haunts Horizon in the Middle of Nowhere. This means magic is nicely visual, big spells are plot devices and there’s this overlapping continuity that pulls all the diverse characters together. Mages do deals with entities which we see represented as little avatars and in exchange for a price or sacrifice certain powers are bestowed. It may or may not be magic – it rather blends technology in with what might be religion. I’m a particular fan of how magic works in Horizon. A favourite scene had two witches on broomsticks take on a super mech. There’s plenty of action and since the cast is such a mix this is pretty cool action. Once I stopped worrying about it and just accepted the fact that students were making the decisions for a floating space colony hovering over a Japan it was all good. The whole “work out what’s going on” issue is a trap. So why did Horizon in the Middle of Nowhere win me over? I hope it wasn’t exclusively to do with the full breasted warriors or female engineers in figure hugging pilot suits. They’re fighting the battles that were once fought in Japan and so forth. One more wiggle the ruling powers are recreating history. Actually, it’s more complex than that and here again we can either struggle with Horizon in the Middle of Nowhere being very odd or just go with it. The tyranny of the rulers comes into stark contrast when one of the group becomes the scapegoat for a disaster. It’s important for the show that our group of hero students aren’t Japanese extremists trying to through the international powers out of the area (hence the cosmopolitan collection). This is necessary because there wouldn’t be enough room or resources for everyone otherwise. That country is Japan.Īs a result Japan is, effectively, conquered and dimensional technology and travelling spaceships/colonies that float around over the land. ![]() Mankind tried, but failed, to get into space and returned to Earth only to discover only one country could support life now. As it turns out, watching more Horizon, helped relieve me of some of those concerns. I found Horizon in the Middle of Nowhere incredibly confusing and almost frustrating to begin with. ![]() ![]() Episodes 16, 18 and 23 of After Story (the sequel series to the original series) are the saddest IMO. There are SEVERAL deaths of major characters and the final episodes will emotionally exhaust the viewer. Several of the main characters stories are extremely emotional, especially Fuko Ibuki's, Yukine Miyazawa's, and Kotomi Ichinose's. However, he is seen only in few episodes and there's nothing overly bad although he does get arrested later on in the series for illegal drug abuse (also meant to be sad.) In one episode, Nagisa Furukawa (Tomoya's friend and later fiancé) drinks sake (rice wine) with her family and Tomoya (both are of age) and she gets drunk and makes comments about Tomoya being in love with her mother (played for laughs). Little to none, although Tomoya's father is a heavy drinker and drug user. This is meant to be emotional rather than violent. Sunohara and Okazaki get into a fight in one episode that involves them yelling at each other, punching and kicking. Theres little violence, although Tomoyo Sakagami is a girl who battles gangs and thugs, but this is rarely seen. Nagisa and Tomoya do have sex after they're married (this isnt seen at all, just her telling that she wants to have a baby) and Nagisa awkwardly admits that she's pregnant. Akio Furukawa makes occasional suggestive comments about his wife, such as saying she has big boobs. They have sex when something good happens to celebrate, or have sex when they mourn, and the most respected people in the land are people who have the best sex. It follows the pattern that exotic people are inherently erotic or that foreign people are mostly erotic or impulsive. They have good philosophies on wartime and culture and religion, but in our narrative, it centers on sex and intriguing the male-gaze of the reader. The Summer Islander philosophy is logically driven and civilized, but it still mainly revolves around sex. rooted in desire and carnal wants, but it is also ruled by logic. Their culture it’s not emotionally or carnally driven like Dothraki " We like sex and killing and riding horses and not much else at all!” It is…. Because George tries to humanize them and gives them interests outside sex and drives outside sex and quirks and dialogue. With Chataya and Alayaya and the Summer Isles … it’s complicated. It’s the fact that they are reduced to sex center-pieces that is bad. That’s not to say white characters are not sexualized in ASOIAF, but you’ll notice that nearly all prominent PoC/exotic/foreign women are sexualized. This is a bit more clear in Dothraki, who involve Dany into their culture and have more screen-time in the story, but you can still see it in other PoC cultures. Even then, the wildlings are a lot more complicated and detailed in their philosophy and culture while the Summer Islanders almost entirely revolve around sex. ![]() We should also take note that the Wildlings (the white savages of the series) are also pretty relaxed on sex and righteous when it comes to their freedom. I think it was expected of GRRM to reflect back about cultures on sex and desire and what is taboo and what isn’t, and we must take into consideration that Westeros is largely based on England and England’s culture at what people love to call ~the medieval times~ Sex was received very differently in certain cultures then and now, especially when you look at modern countries who allow sex work to be legal while others require porn to be censored. There is nothing inherently evil about sex, and it can lead to joy (pleasure, children, love) so what is all the fuss about?ĪSOIAF, Westeros, and Essos are reflections and imitations and commentaries of our own worldly cultures. I agree with Chataya that there shouldn’t be such a taboo around sex (*cough* *cough*) because it’s a natural thing that most of us come to do. I also don’t think sex work is the bane of society, it’s just another job, as I see it, that is not healthy for a person’s mind and body, but whatever, neither is smoking or drinking or constantly cracking your skull in a football field for money. I personally don’t think it’s good for mental or physical health to have many sexual sexual partners, but I don’t slut shame. I only take issue with unconsensual assault (children and animals cannot consent) but any other act is fine my me. I have no issue with consensual sex at all, be it heterosexual, homosexual, polygamous, or sex work. ![]() I have a very liberal outlook in sexuality, and this plays part of my interpretation, and even then there is no doubt that there is an “exotic = erotic” pattern in ASOIAF.
